What does creation have to do with redemption? What is the new creation and the new birth? When does the old stop and the new begin? How is the new creation related to the old creation … and what is the difference between them? Did God leave His rest to re-create? Did He make a mistake with His first attempt at creation? These are some of the question we’ll begin to answer in this writing.

Creation & Redemption
The writers of the New Testament often speak of creation in the same breath as redemption.
John starts his version of the gospel making sure that his audience understands that the God he speaks about is the God who created all things and through whom all things exist.

“The original, authentic Word was face to face with God from the very beginning. God Himself is the content of this communication – revealing His personal presence and unique expression in all that exists.

In fact there is nothing original or innovative outside of Him! He is the only Creator and the source of all inspiration and creativity. Everything that is, has ‘Made by God’ stamped on its existence. (John 1:1-4 Translated by Andre Rabe)

When Paul explores the scale of reconciliation in one of his most powerful writings, he starts with reminding us about the person we are dealing with – the Creator of all things:

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Col 1:15-20)

The psalmist said it this way: “The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,” Ps 24:1

So how is redemption connected with creation?
The Creator has not forsaken His creation!
The Creator has not given up on His creation.
He has not renounced His declaration that what He made is good.
God believes that everything He made can be saved.

The fall & the beginning of the ‘old’ creation.
Evil did not obliterate God’s original creation. Evil did not succeed in perverting creation to such an extent, that it was not worth saving. Evil could twist, pervert and suppress what God created, but it could not utterly corrupt it.

God still sees a value, in fallen creation, which is worth pursuing and paying the utmost price for.
The new creation is nothing less than God’s affirmation of the original creation.
In the new creation God declares that what He made originally was not a mistake, that creation is worth renewing and restoring.

Another picture that I found helpful is that of a seed. Jesus said: Unless the seed dies it remains alone, but if it dies it produces a great harvest. …. However the new life that spring from the seed would not be possible without the ‘old’ ‘dead’ seed. So in that way it is not completely new.

A seed does not move, breath, grow or do anything else that we associate with being alive. Yet within this seemingly lifeless container lies one of the greatest wonders of life – the genetic code, the logic, that is capable of unleashing a burst of life. There might be a forest in that single seed. As someone once said: “You can count the seeds in an apple, but can you count the apples in a seed?” All it needs is to be awakened.

Different seeds have different types of dormancy and different triggers that break this dormancy. In some seeds, germination is triggered by moisture, in others by light, yet in others by a combination of stimuli. I once read an amazing story about seed that was discovered in an ancient Egyptian tomb. Grain was deposited into a Pharaoh’s tomb together with his remains. Thousands of years later men discovered that grain. When they planted some of those seeds, they germinated. The death concealed within the tomb could not overcome the life preserved within those seeds!

Man originated in God. Although dormant, the seed of God, His genetic code, remains within man. Peter wrote about the fact that we were born not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible – the word of God that lives and abides forever. (1Pet 1:23) Incorruptible seed – think about that. This seed might have been separated from the tree of its origin, it might have been trampled under foot … but it is incorruptible! The logic of its origin remains in tact. There is an environment that can cause this seed to germinate. There are words that contain the spirit environment that causes this spirit seed within man to germinate and produce resurrection life. A person might have no interest in God, and could have been in this state of spiritual death for many years. Oh, but when words of life enter, the very death or tomb in which he lives, becomes a womb; a womb that incubates the very life of God.

What did God come to save? What did God see in fallen humanity that prevented Him from simply destroying it. What did He see that caused Him to pursue us and pay the greatest price for us even before we believed?

Eternal rest.
When God finished creation, He entered His rest on the seventh day – an eternal day. (All the other days have a beginning and an end, the seventh day has no end) Heb 4 also reveals that God ceased from all His work, entered His rest and has never left that rest.

God did not become dissatisfied with what He made and consequently started working on a brand new plan for something that never existed before. The new creation was not another act of creating or work which required God to stop resting and start creating again. God is satisfied with what He originally created and confidently waits for its return to His original design.
God is not nervous about what He made … He is not anxious about your life. What He imagined originally when He first thought of you, is still His only reference to who you are. Agree with God and be at peace.

The New Creation
Let’s look at one of the most popular scriptures regarding the new creation: 2 Cor 5:14-17
“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them”

I want to specifically focus on verse 17: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
The ‘if’ in this sentence has often been seen as a conditional ‘if’. But Paul uses this ‘if’ as a conclusion, not as a condition. See for instance Rom 8:31 as well: If God is for us, who can be against us? Can you see that the ‘if’ is a conclusion … not a condition?

Also notice the word ‘therefore’. Whenever you see the word ‘therefore’, ask, what is it there for. You see verse 17 is the conclusion of verse 14-16 in which Paul makes it as clear as can be that all where included in the death of Christ. That is why Paul can no longer look at any man from a human point of view. History recorded the death of one man, but eternity saw humanity included in that event.

The word ‘new’ was translated from ‘kainos’ and refers to that which is new, especially in freshness and age. In other words that which has not been affected by time.

The word ‘creation’ was translated from ‘ktisis’. Strongs define it as: original formation, building, creation, creature, ordinance. It comes from the word ‘ktiz?’ which Strongs defines as follows:
Probably akin to G2932 (through the idea of the proprietorship of the manufacturer); to fabricate, that is, found (formoriginally): – create, Creator, make.

It is also interesting to note that ‘any man’ can also be translated ‘any thing’.

The new creation, therefore, is the original creation that was found again by its founder and cleansed from the affects of time, renewed and refreshed.
The old creation is also the original creation, but in a state of decay, as it was subjected to corruption.

In the same way as there is only one Creator, there is only one creation.
This one original creation has been in different states, namely ‘old’ or corrupted by the events in time, and ‘new’ or cleansed from the decay of time and restored to its authentic glory.
There is no such thing as an evil creation – evil never created anything.
The only thing Satan can give birth to, is lies.

In His death He did the unthinkable, He reached back into the irreversibility of time and loosened the grip of corrupting events from His creation. He reaches back into timeless eternity and restores the first creation to a place of blameless innocence, without a trace of decay or any evidence that it was ever touched by sin.

In Christ, God preserved the logic that was in the beginning, the design that was untouched by the fall, the motivation behind all of creation. In Christ, the Creator finds His creation and establishes such a unity that it can never be lost again.

If there is anything in Christ, if indeed all things consist in Him, then in Him we see God’s authentic thought and design for everything restored. It can mean nothing less than the original creation being restored to that place of relationship to God, as if sin never existed, as if time never decayed.

When the Word became flesh, when the Creator became a creation, the relation between them fundamentally changed. This act of incarnation, in which the Creator embraces his creation, in which God unites Himself with humanity, is the beginning of reconciliation and the end of hostility. Incarnation is how God releases His creation from corruption and affirms once again that what He made is good … when He said man is His image and likeness, He meant it.

I’m sure you have often heard this scripture used in the context of individual conversion, to show how a person’s life changes when they meet Christ. And I can understand that. When we look at the mess in which we lived before Christ and the peace we received when we received Him, this verse makes a lot of sense. However, the new creation has a larger context and relevance than your individual life and experience. God sees the universal renewal of all that exists to His authentic thought before the fall. We can individually participate in that renewal … but the new creation is a larger event that your individual decision.

?[In this new creation all distinctions vanish.] There is no room for and there can be neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, [nor difference between nations whether alien] barbarians or Scythians [ who are the most savage of all], nor slave or free man; but Christ is all and in all [ everything and everywhere, to all men, without distinction of person].
(Col 3:11 AMP)

The New Birth.
When we understand the new creation, it is not difficult to understand the new birth. The new testament uses the words ‘born again’ only in the book of Peter! John 3 actually speaks about born from above. The word which some bibles translated ‘again’ is the Greek word ‘an?then’ which means: from above; by analogy from the first; by implication anew: – from above, again, from the beginning (very first), the top. As with the new creation, this refers to a renewal, a restoration of the original.

Let’s have a look at these verses in detail. John 3 speaks of two births – what is born of flesh and what is born of spirit, our natural birth and our spirit birth. He refers to these births in different ways, namely: the spirit birth is also referred to as ‘born from above’, and the natural birth is also referred to as born of water – the natural womb from which we came.

Many sermon’s have been preached on ‘you must be born again’ as if this is something a person can do. However, in the same passage Jesus says: “unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” As little as you contributed to your natural birth, as little you are capable of contributing to your spirit birth.

Jesus is stating a fact to Nicodemus: to see the kingdom of God, to even have an appetite for spiritual things, you have to have a spirit dimension … a part of you that has its origin ‘from above’

All men have spirits. There are multitudes of scriptures that show that all men have a spirit.
In Gen 6:3 God says that the life within flesh is His spirit! : “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”
Num 16:22 (and others) refers to God as “the God of the spirits of all flesh”.
Job 27:3 calls man’s breath ‘the spirit of God is in my nostrils’

There are too many to mention. The truth is that man has a spirit dimension, a part that originates ‘from above’. It is because Nicodemus had an origin beyond flesh, a spirit dimension, that He had an appetite for spiritual things.

When?
But when and how does this renewal happen? What is the basis and beginning of this new creation, this new birth?
“By His boundless mercy we have been born again to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” 1 Pet 1:3
“You have been regenerated (born again), not from a mortal origin (seed, sperm), but from one that is immortal by the ever living and lasting Word of God.” 1 Pet 1:23

Notice that if we have to give a time-reference for when the new creation started, it is the resurrection of Jesus Christ according to Peter.
The new testament writers saw something of much greater significance in the death of Christ, than the death of one single man. History might have recorded the death of one man, but the mystery that was hidden in eternity has now been revealed: humanity … in fact the cosmos, was in Him! “…if one died for all, then all died.” Paul describes the process of His death as both a destructive and creative event in which the divisions between all people where destroyed and through which He created ONE new man. (Eph 2:11-19)

Jesus came to remind us that we have a greater, and more valid identity than flesh. In His death He brings to judgement that identity of man that was tarnished by sin - the events in time. He reaches into that eternal realm, where the blueprint of man’s design was preserved, and in His resurrection, the new creation begins. He was raised because of our justification.

What He accomplished is reality. Our appeal to man, is to enter into God’s reality. In Colossians this redemption is described as being transferred out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of the son of His love. Can you see how the new birth, is just like the new creation – it is the original creation that is rescued from the decay and chaos of the kingdom of darkness.

Our decision for Christ only has substance because of God’s decision for us. Our faith is simply entering into – saying yes – to what God already believes to be true.

As with the original creation, all Adam could do was to open his eyes to the perfection and completion of what God had done already, even so with redemption, our only contribution is to open our eyes to the perfection and completion of the salvation He achieved for us, with us and in us, even before we were aware of it.

Hosea prophesies of the death and resurrection of Christ as follows: “After two days He will revive us (quicken us, give us life); on the third day He will raise us up that we may live before Him.” God was indeed in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.

The Adamic race met its final end in the last Adam – Christ. For as surely as one died for all, all have died … not one survived! He is the firstborn of a new creation – God’s authentic and original idea of man – His image and likeness in human form – has been restored.

What He accomplished is reality and it is complete. The future holds a further unveiling and manifestation of this reality … but the event that made it real was the life, death and resurrection of Christ.

The Full Manifestation
“….the joyful anticipation deepens.
All around us we observe a pregnant creation. The difficult times of pain throughout the world are simply birth pangs. But it’s not only around us; it’s within us. The Spirit of God is arousing us within. We’re also feeling the birth pangs. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance. That is why waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, don’t see what is enlarging us. But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.”
Rom 8:18-25 MSG

Waiting for the full manifestation of these truths is not something that leaves us with a sense of lack in the present. No … this is a joyful expectation … a joy bursting forth in how we live life now.

4I continually thank my God for you because of the grace of God which is given you in Christ Jesus, 5that you are enriched by Him in every possible way, in all the fullness of what can be known and understood and being able to express it fully. 6Just as the evidence of Christ was confirmed within you – you have within yourselves the proof that He is! 7You don’t lack anything – you are fully qualified. You have every reason to expect the Lord Jesus Christ to be made visible through you. 8Who also confirms your blamelessness to the uttermost degree in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. ( 1 Cor 1:4-8 a translation from the original by Andre Rabe)

You have every reason to expect the Lord Jesus Christ to be made visible through you!
Through you He desires to give expression to His authentic thought.
To display His image and likeness in human form was His idea from the beginning.

The mission of Jesus was not to start the Christian religion; he did not come to win votes against Caesar, Mohammed or Moses. He came to reveal and redeem the authentic image and likeness of God in human form. Gen.1:26, Col.1:15, 2:9,10.

There are 2 worlds: an above and below world; or the faith realm and the sense realm.
To engage one’s thoughts exclusively in the below world blurs the reality of the faith world and paralyses one with feelings of despair, hatred and hopelessness.

South Africa’s (and the world’s) most critical crisis is not their politics, crime or economy, but their ignorance of their original identity and the authentic value of every individual revealed and redeemed in Christ. In one act of righteousness their Maker reconciled the world to himself. Rom.5:15-21.

This is not a Boer-, Xhosa- or Zulu-thing; this is a Christ thing, because in him there is neither Jew nor Gentile. They were all equally represented in his death and resurrection where the old passed away and the new has come! 2 Cor.5:14-17. Jesus was not the second Adam but indeed the last Adam. In his death the Adamic race died and in his resurrection a new redeemed race was born. 1 Pet.1:3. “Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment? Isa.66:8, Hos.6:2.

Man’s ignorance of the truth feeds his unbelief and empowers an already defeated devil to again blindfold and abuse him. 2Cor.4:4.

God’s faith is not confused or intimidated by contradiction.
He always called things that were not as though they were! Rom.4:17. He never changes his mind; he confirmed and fulfilled his eternal purpose in Christ. God has given evidence to his faith in man’s redemption by raising Jesus from the dead! Rom.4:25.

In total contrast to the darkness that seems to veil the understanding of the peoples of the world, the believers are summoned to arise and shine for their light has come: it’s source is found in the unveiling of God’s image and likeness (his glory) in man. The light of the gospel is the glory of God revealed in the face of a man; this revealing is the most irresistible attraction of the life of our design as mirrored in Christ, awakening and transforming ordinary people into his likeness. 2 Cor. 3:18. “Nations shall come to your light and their leaders to the brightness of your rising!” Isa.60:1-3.

This is no time to run and hide, but to arise and shine!

Note that it is not our job to measure or proclaim the degrees of darkness; we are the ones to arise and radiate the life of everyone’s design, the image and likeness of God redeemed and revealed again in human form.
The true light that enlightens everyone has come!

John 1:3 Everything’s existence is sourced in him; he remains the exclusive Parent reference to their genesis. There is nothing original, except the Word!
1:4 His life is the light that defines our lives.
1:5 The darkness (that trapped humanity in ignorance) was pierced and could not comprehend or diminish this light. Isa.9:2-4, Isa.60:1-3, Eph.3:18.
1:9 The authentic light of life that illuminates everyone was about to dawn in the world! (In human form)

We are not staring into an unknown and fearful future.
Christ is the desire of the nations; he represents their original life! Hag.2:7
The nations are waiting to hear a distinct and accurate sound, then they will come, and their kings to the brightness of your rising. The living epistle is designed to be known and read by all. 2 Cor.3: 2,3. While we are not preaching ourselves, we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience by the open statement of the truth. (The mirror message, 2 Cor.3:18,4:2,5.)

Romans 13:11 “You must understand the urgency and context of time; it is most certainly the hour now to wake up at once out of the hypnotic state of slumber and unbelief. Salvation has come. 13:12 It was night for long enough; the day has arrived. Cease immediately with any action associated with the darkness of ignorance. Clothe yourself in the radiance of light as a soldier would wear his full weaponry. 13:13 Our lives exhibit the kind of conduct consistent with the day, in contrast to the parade of the night of intoxicated licentiousness and lust, with all the quarrels and jealousy it ignites.”

We cannot afford double mindedness, “While we look not at the things that are seen but at the things that are unseen….”
2 Cor.4:18, “You are raised together with Christ; now set your minds upon the things that are above and not upon the things that are below!” Col3:1-16.

Enough bad news! We cannot publish anything but the power of the gospel that sets people free; nothing else promotes life changing faith.

Prophecy is fulfilled in the promise.
Jesus is God’s yes to the world; he is the fullness of time and the fulfilment of every promise. 2 Cor.1:18-20.

We are wasting our time combating politics with politics! Publish the good news! Isa 40:9.
Let’s focus on the Philemon verse 6 model: “the communication of our faith promotes the knowledge of every good thing that is in us in Christ.” The communication of the problems in South Africa cannot but promote fear and despair.

Jesus did not come to win votes against Julius (Caesar or Malema!) or the Sanhedrin; neither did he try to influence the Roman Centurion to quit his job.
He came to reveal and redeem the likeness of God in human life, not as in a display window, but as in a mirror, in us, to free us to be the voice of his blueprint design, wherever we are. Col.1:13-15. In God’s economy the individual represents the masses! Your life is God’s strategy, you are his voice, his message wrapped your person.

We are not to confuse or mix the message of grace with religious legalism. The truth that sets people free cannot be the exposing of sin!
The law did that and it didn’t work.
Grace and truth comes thru Jesus.
Jesus dealt with sin and broke its power-claim in the human body. “Sin was your master while the law was your measure; now grace rules.” (The law revealed your slavery to sin, now grace reveals your freedom from it.) Rom.6:14.

To walk in the light as he is in the light means to understand the success of the cross! Our point of departure is the finished work of Christ.
This does not mean that we now have an excuse to continue in sin or to go into denial if someone has sinned, on the contrary, in the light of man’s joint-crucifixion and joint-resurrection with Jesus, we can speak to sin and sickness with the same authority that God does. The Greek word for confession, homologeo means to say the same thing.

Our influence in society, regardless of our profession, is determined by our faith, and not our political sentiment or job-description; our faith is sourced in Christ, in his perfect work of reconciling a hostile world to himself, not counting (calculating) their trespasses as evidence against them, but considering his justice met in his perfect act of righteousness.
Since God is persuaded about the innocence of man as evidenced in the resurrection we can afford to agree with him! (Rom.4:25, Acts 17:30,31)

There must be a “from now on therefore” reference in everyone’s life. “From now on therefore, says Paul, I no longer know any man from a human point of view, even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view we know him thus no longer.” The way we know Christ determines how we now know ourselves and one another! 2 Cor. 5:16. In verse 14 he says “The love of Christ constrains me, for I am convinced that if one has died for all, then all have died!”

Peter declares that God has shown him to call no man unholy or unclean! Acts 10:28. This would be impossible and absurd if there was not something of far greater significance that happened to mankind before they even knew or believed it! Something happened to mankind in Christ beyond comparison to what happened to them in Adam! Rom.5:15-21. God’s Lamb took away the sins of the world! “While we were still dead in our sins, he made us alive together with Christ…” Eph.2:5,6.

Paul reminds Titus to speak evil of no man, to avoid quarrelling and to show perfect courtesy towards all men! “For we ourselves were once ignorant…” Titus 3:2-5. The only difference between us and the world is in what we know to be true about mankind as revealed in Christ!

While we proclaim the sinful state of humanity we are not proclaiming the gospel, and life changing faith cannot come to the people! This conviction is critical if we are serious about impacting our world with the proclamation of the Gospel. I recommend that we become acquainted with our shared position in the throne room, much more than with the latest headlines and statistics of the political world and its corruption! God made that calculation in Christ and now seeks to convince us of its validity…much more, beyond comparison is the effect of one man’s act of righteousness to the massive evidence of corruption and darkness in the world! Col.3:1-16.

“Glad tidings of great joy…!” The immediate effect of the gospel is that of great joy! If what I ponder and proclaim brings anything but great joy it is no longer gospel! I can only proclaim what I am convinced of; the more I ponder the success of the cross the louder my confidence to speak boldly!

Rom. 10:17 “It is clear then that faith’s source is found in the content of the message heard; the message is Christ. We are God’s audience; Jesus is God’s language!” Heb.1:1-3.

There is enough bad news in the media world! Let us give ourselves for the good news! Glad tidings of great joy which belongs to the whole world!!!!!

As I said before, “our influence in society, regardless of our profession, is determined by our faith, and not our job-description; our faith is sourced in Christ” whether president or priest, rich or poor, our influence is only measured by our grasp of the Gospel. This cannot be compromised, nothing but the brightness of your rising in the understanding of Christ in you will attract the kings. Isa 60:1-3. Christ in you is the only hope of the nations. Col.1:25-29.

The greatest thrill is to imagine what God is now able to communicate through a life truly enlightened by his indwelling, the treasure of God in an earthen vessel. Truth deserves a display in your life, equal to its prominence in the life of Christ!
Col.2:9,10.

The authority of the Christ-life resurrected and revealed in ordinary lives is what the Kingdom of God is all about! This is the life of our design and belongs to every man! This is the life Jesus mirrored and redeemed for humanity.

Peter understood the resurrection and did not point the cripple beggar to the sky to an invisible historic or futuristic Jesus! “Look at us!” he said: “What we have belongs to you!” Acts 3:4-6.

To be double-minded is to forget what manner of man you are and be reduced to a mere man. James 1:24.

Nothing can better equip any individual to be a more dynamic, practical liberating influence to his neighbour and neighbourhood than being the voice of the free eagle! The eagle released from its zoo-cage could not fly even though it was freed in its original habitat; its mind seemed still snared in the cage until it heard the liberating voice of a free eagle.

Announcing the legality of man’s innocence will free mankind to know the truth of their original design and sonship redeemed! The cage is open for every nation!
The message of the reconciliation that God worked in Christ will flood the earth like a tsunami wave! Not through some future revival from above, but from the innermost being of ordinary people discovering Christ not hiding in some vague historic reference, but risen in us! Christ in us the hope of glory. Rivers of living water gushing forth from our innermost being.
This will make wars and divorce cease to the ends of the earth.
Today I have begotten you, ask of me the nations!

The du Toits and the Simons’ sons of Jonah, the Jews and the Gentiles died 2010 years ago.
There is no other context but Christ in us.

No other message or persuasion will awaken mankind to the true light that enlightens every man.
It is not his 2nd coming that will do this. While we believe that, we are in the same wilderness Israel was trapped in. They were all equally delivered out of Egypt but believed a wrong report about themselves. Numbers 13:33.

God believes in our design as image bearers of his likeness. His eternal purpose is to reveal himself in us as his body. He called it in Abraham, without a nervous twitch of, “what if Sarah does not fall pregnant!”
God is as confident now about the things he spoke in Christ as eternity will prove him to be.

He wants to persuade us, so that the living epistles will be known and read by all men, and all men everywhere will come to the same repentance, (metanoia) the awakening of their understanding of who they really are, revealed in him as in a mirror; the unveiled understanding of every man’s conscience.
The little stone that Daniel saw, will strike the man-made image and crush it to insignificance and the stone will become the glorious mountain that will fill the whole earth.
Faith sees it now as substance, no further evidence needed!
That is faith; its voice is radically different to the voice of popular opinion proclaiming their realities!

I remember the excitement of the first time that I discovered that Christ was in me; the absolute fulfillment of knowing that there was no distance between us. That day God became to me, more that a philosophical concept; more than a religious being that I tried to get closer to, but He became to me the very essence of who I am; the God who chose me as His dwelling. God whispered to me .”..it is no longer you who live, but it is I, Christ, living in you; and the life that you now live in the flesh, you live by my faith..” Gal 2:20. I remember running to a mirror and leaning closer, looking deeply into my own eyes and saying “I can see You, Jesus – You are right there – in me.”

That awareness of Christ’s indwelling generated an inexhaustible energy within me to share Him with others also. I began sharing Christ with whomever and whatever stood still long enough to hear me. Naturally my classmates at school were the first to hear and see. From there it grew to neighbours and strangers. The witness I bore then and bear now is without any religious obligation; it is the fellowship that I enjoy with the Father that compels me to communicate. 1 John 1:3. I had absolutely no desire to simply change people’s opinions to agree with me, neither did I have any motivation to have them join my religious organization. NO! It was the reality of Christ in me that drove me to make others aware of the wealth that was within their reach also.

Many experiences can lose their thrill after a while, but the awareness of God’s indwelling only grows in its appeal and intensity.

What qualifies you to share Christ?
Speaking from the reality of an awareness of your union with Christ; the reality of a living relationship with Him, is irresistible and it is all the qualification you will ever need. Many of the disciples Jesus chose were illiterate! And the few who learned to write, did not bother putting anything on record until decades after His death and resurrection. The simple reason for this is that Christ in them was a reality of much greater importance to them than systematic theology.

Act 4:13 Now, when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and found out that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were amazed and realized that they had been with Jesus.

Your qualification to share Christ has nothing to do with your education or social status – it has everything to do with your contact with Jesus.

Paul, the one apostle that could boast of his education and human qualifications had this to say about it:

Phi 3:7 The very credentials these people are waving around as something special, I’m tearing up and throwing out with the trash–along with everything else I used to take credit for. And why? Because of Christ.
Phi 3:8 Yes, all the things I once thought were so important are gone from my life. Compared to the high privilege of knowing Christ Jesus as my Master, firsthand, everything I once thought I had going for me is insignificant–dog dung. I’ve dumped it all in the trash so that I could embrace Christ

I can’t really improve on that – read it again. If you have studied much and know the scriptures better than most you should maybe read it one more time.

Our confident appeal.
You see, if our appeal was to the intellect of man, then by all means get as much education and degrees as possible. And don’t stop with theology – psychology, sociology and philosophy could be very handy as well.

Or maybe our appeal should be to man’s natural desires. Then by all means you should make your Sunday services as entertaining as possible; make your message as un-offensive as possible and hope that your good looks and professional appearance draw some people into attending another meeting.

But if we desire to communicate the gospel of Christ, our communication needs to extend far beyond these superficial, shallow levels and stir up the spirit of man.

2Co 3:5 not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God;
2Co 3:6 who also has made us able ministers of the new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit makes alive.

Our aim is the spirit, not the head. The only person able to teach us this skill of hitting the target of the heart is God Himself.

2Co 4:2 but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

Nothing has greater authority and ability to awaken the conscience of man, than another man walking in the truth; enjoying the reality of fellowship with God. No institution can teach you that. No one else can be intimate with God on your behalf – there is only one person capable of bringing you into the awareness of your union with Christ … and that’s you, simply yielding to Christ in you and believing what He says concerning you and Him.

2Co 4:6 Seeing it is God, that said, Light shall shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2Co 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the exceeding greatness of the power may be of God, and not from ourselves;

If we look to any of our own characteristics as a basis for our qualification to share Christ, we miss the point. It is not the clay pot that makes the treasure inside valuable; it is the treasure inside that makes the clay pot valuable. This message carries within itself an authority that is undeniable. It’s when our appreciation of the treasure becomes dim that we try to decorate the pot. It’s when we take our focus off the message of ‘Christ in you’, that we become concerned with presenting the ‘pot’ – the container - in a slick, appealing way. What a joy to discover that our confidence is not based on our own ability to communicate, but on God’s ability to reveal himself – it is the content of this gospel that carries the faith of God and sets the tone for the faith response of those who hear.

2 Pet1:5 (Mirror Translation) Now that the stage is set to display life’s excellence, imagine the extreme devotion and focus of a conductor of music; (epichoregeo, epi, preposition, + chorus, chorus or choir or orchestra, + ago, to lead as a shepherd leads his sheep) how he would diligently acquaint himself with every individual voice in the choir, as well as the contribution of every specific instrument, to follow the precise music represented in every note in order to give maximum credit to the original composition; this is exactly what it means to exhibit the divine character. Before a performance the first violinist will give the exact note for every instrument to be finely tuned to that note, in the same way the faith of God gives that exact pitch. You are the choir conductor of your own life; study the full content of faith; you will find virtue there, and within virtue faith-inspired knowledge will voice its contribution. (There is a level of understanding that can only be accessed by faith. Heb.11:3, “by faith we understand that the ages were framed by the Word of God…)

This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now it’s out in the open. God wanted everyone, not just Jews, to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less. (Col 1:26-29 MSG)

Christ is in you! What more do you need? There is nothing more! All that can be done is to appreciate more, the reality of Christ in you!

Trophies of Christ’s victory

But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph as trophies of Christ’s victory and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere, For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God, [discernible alike] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing: To the latter it is an aroma from death to death; to the former it is an aroma from life to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is qualified (fit and sufficient) for these things? [Who is able for such a ministry? We?]
For we are not, like so many, [like hucksters making a trade of] peddling God’s Word [shortchanging and adulterating the divine message]; but like [men] of sincerity and the purest motive, as [commissioned and sent] by God, we speak [His message] in Christ (the Messiah), in the sight and presence of God. (2 Cor 2:14-17)

A trophy is a perpetual reminder of a victory that was won, the proof of the success and achievement of the victor. Sometimes it is necessary to state the obvious: The trophy did not win any battle or achieve any victory. The trophy simple celebrates an event to which it contributed nothing, yet is intimately linked to. Life is not meant to be a series of battles in which we win some and loose some. Rather, as trophies of Christ’s victory, we are the proof and continual reminder of the once-and-for-all success of His achievement. We reign in life based on the accomplishment of this one man – His gift of righteousness.

There is only one standard of victory, one standard of life that God intends for us to enjoy and that is the victory and newness of life that He achieved in His death and resurrection. There is only one standard of fellowship: we’ve been invited into the same quality of fellowship that Jesus enjoys with the Father (1Cor 1:9)

After Paul spoke about Christ’s victory and our position as trophies of His achievement, he expands this thought by saying that we can never reduce this message to a sales pitch. Understanding the unprecedented significance of this event, we can never reduce it to a product that needs to be peddled. We are not salesmen promoting a product, but newsmen declaring an event in which:

He was delivered up because of our offences, and was raised up because of our being declared righteous; He planned for the maturity of the times and the climax of the ages to unify all things and head them up and consummate them in Christ, things in heaven and things on the earth. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was supreme in the beginning and—leading the resurrection parade—he is supreme in the end. From beginning to end he’s there, towering far above everything, everyone. So spacious is he, so roomy, that everything of God finds its proper place in him without crowding. Not only that, but all the broken and dislocated pieces of the universe—people and things, animals and atoms—get properly fixed and fit together in vibrant harmonies, all because of his death, his blood that poured down from the cross. For by a single offering He has forever completely cleansed and perfected those who are consecrated and made holy. Everything comes from him; Everything happens through him; Everything ends up in him.
Rom 4:25, Eph 1:10, Col 1:15,18-20, Heb 10:14, Rom 11:36

But all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself – received us into favor, brought us into harmony with Himself – and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony with Him. It was God personally present in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favor with Himself, not counting up and holding against men their trespasses , and committing to us the message of reconciliation of the restoration to favor. So we are Christ’s ambassadors, God making His appeal as it were through us. We, as Christ’s personal representatives, beg you for His sake to lay hold of the divine favor now offered you and be reconciled to God. 2 Cor 5:18-20

There are truths which remain true whether you believe them or not. Paul understood this and wrote ‘for we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth‘ (2 Cor 13:8)In the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, God did something for and with mankind that is immutable – not subject or susceptible to change or variation in form or quality or nature. The success of what He accomplished is unchallenged, unaffected by unbelief. In Christ God removed every obstacle and hindrance that stood between Himself and man. He dealt with sin – all sin of all people. He invalidated guilt – it has no foundation. These are things He did for us, whether we are aware of it or not. But He also did something with us – in His death, we died. In His resurrection we were elevated to a new position of blameless innocence before God. “There’s no end to what has happened in you—it’s beyond speech, beyond knowledge.“ (1 Cor 1:5 MSG) These things do not become true when you believe them – they are true even if you are unaware of them. Even if no-one believed, the truth about man and God would remain true. “What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all!” (Rom 3:3)
Fully persuaded

So if the truth remains truth no matter what I believe, does my faith really matter? Absolutely yes, in every way. We only experience the benefit of truth as we embrace it. “For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said” (Heb 4:2) The truth has no value for you individually, if it is not combined with faith. Paul wrote about the ‘wealth’ or ‘riches’ of being fully persuaded (Col 2:2) There is a richness of life, a rest of satisfaction, an abundance of contentment, that is only found in being fully persuaded.

Falling in love
Faith is so much more than correct information … as much as falling in love is more than knowing the facts about another person. When I met Mary-Anne, I did not not even know how to spell her name, her date of birth or background, but that did not stop my heart from responding with a ‘wow’. When a beautiful landscape appears before me, I instantly respond with appreciation without needing facts and figures. Faith is such a gift – its an instant response when encountering God. Whenever He reveals Himself we automatically respond with awe and adoration. Seeing what He sees causes us to believe what He believes. It is so much more than the pathetic ‘Statements Of Faith’ that some organisations publish. I’m so glad that neither Jesus nor Paul ever wrote a ‘Statement of Faith’ – they knew that the adoration they had in response to the beauty of the Father could never be reduced to a set of principles or neatly categorised into a doctrine. All we could ever hope to express is an introduction, an invitation for others to see what we see.

For the truth
‘for we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth‘ (2 Cor 13:8) Although we can do nothing against the truth, we can do something for it! We can allow it to have its full effect in us and through us. We can draw the maximum value and benefit from it as we combine it with faith, allowing God to persuade us fully as He is persuaded. 1Cor 1: 6 speaks about the testimony of Christ that has been confirmed in us.
Why do you think Paul, knowing that we can do nothing against the truth, would still risk his life and endure agonising persecution and torture for the sake of making this truth known. Well, we don’t have to guess, he wrote about his motivation. “For Christ’s love compels us, since we have reached this conclusion: if One died for all, then all died. And He died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the One who died for them and was raised.” (2 Cor 5:14,15) Paul reached a conclusion – the conclusion that, what Christ accomplished, included all mankind … yet the full implication of this truth, the benefit of this truth still eluded the masses because of ignorance. The desire for others to enjoy the full benefit of these immutable truths, drove him to make this truth known as accurately as possible.
So what can we do for the truth? We can allow it to have its full effect in and through us. Allow the testimony of Christ to be confirmed in you. We do this as we continue to live in awe at the revelation brought to us through Jesus Christ. We do this as we allow our enjoyment of Him to overflow into loving others – a love that compels us to live for more than just ourselves.
The full value and benefit of the truth will be realized. He is not pressed by time or impatient to draw all men to Himself – He has all eternity to show us the full value and benefit of what He accomplished on our behalf “so that in the coming ages He might display the immeasurable riches of His grace in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.” until “all created beings in heaven and on earth—even those long ago dead and buried—will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call out in praise that he is the Master of all, to the glorious honor of God the Father” (Eph 2:7; Phil 2:10,11)

Francois du Toit has produced an exceptionally thought provoking translation of the book of Romans. Below is the introduction. The book can be downloaded from the book section. Details of how to order hard-copies can be found in the book itself … hopefully I will make it available on Lulu soon.

Introduction

The free eagle
While we were on honeymoon at Blydepoort, Mpumalanga (Jan 1979) Lydia and I met an official from Nature Conservation who told us of a fascinating incident; she witnessed the dramatic release of a Black Eagle a few weeks prior to our visit. This eagle had been captive in the Pretoria zoo for ten years.
She told us how thrilled they were with excitement and anticipation when the eagle finally arrived in its cage and the gate was opened. But only with difficulty did they eventually succeed to nudge the bird out of its cage.
It was one thing to get the bird out of the cage, but how do you get the cage out of the bird? In the mind of this eagle, it was still captive in the Pretoria zoo!
Every one was holding their breath, but this once mighty bird remained the pathetic prisoner of an inferior mindset.
Nothing changed until much later when another eagle began to call in the area. The eyes of the zoo-eagle immediately lit up, and the next moment she took off in majestic flight to soar in unrestricted space. It needed no further flying instructions!

This dramatic story left a deep impression on my mind. I knew that in the light of Paul’s revelation of the good news, we are left with one urgent priority, which is to announce to the nations with bold confidence the truth about their original identity and mirror-reflect the integrity of their innocence.

Paul’s Gospel
In His letter to the Romans, Paul gives radical and immediate relevance to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a most distinguished fashion.

In studying this pivotal book of the Bible one begins to understand why Paul would so emphatically speak of his gospel.
He erases any illusion that one could possibly add or subtract from this revelation. It concerns the total wellbeing of universal mankind; how the Creator succeeded in redeeming and restoring His image and likeness in human form.
Paul is convinced that whatever happened to the human race because of Adam’s fall, is far superseded in every possible proportion by the revelation of mankind’s inclusion in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
He places the fall of Adam and every act of unrighteousness that followed against the one act of righteousness that God performed in Christ as the final acquittal of humanity.
Any instruction that still places the emphasis on man’s contribution according to the prescribed rules of the law to improve himself and his conduct, limits man again to personal discipline and effort under the futile system of the law of guilt and condemnation; and ignores the completed work of God in Christ.
“Even a little leaven leavens the whole lump” he says in his letter to the Galatians. (5:9)

The revelation of righteousness by faith unveils how God in Christ succeeded in restoring man’s lost sense of identity and innocence. The etymological essence of the word, ‘righteousness’ in its root form, ‘dike’, implies the idea of two parties finding likeness in each other; with no interference of any sense of blame, guilt or inferiority.

In his Epistles Paul declares in no uncertain terms that he did not make any effort to learn or borrow his revelation of the gospel from the original eleven disciples of Jesus.
“For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that I preach is not man’s gospel.
For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.
For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it.
And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers.
But God separated me from my mother’s womb and identified me through the revelation of His grace.
It pleased Him to reveal His Son in me, in order that I might preach Him in the Gentiles, I deliberately did not consult with anyone.” (Gal.1:11,12,15-17)
One would think that Paul missed out on a golden opportunity immediately after his conversion in that he did not study at first hand the detailed eye-witness information which the apostles had to offer him about Jesus of Nazareth.
But the impact of his encounter had distanced him even from the value he had previously placed on his own noble birth.
Whatever gain he felt that he might have had as descendant of the prominent lineage of Benjamin is discounted against the revelation of the greater spiritual identity of man. “From now on therefore I no longer know any man from a human point of view…” (2Cor.5:16.) “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, nor slave nor freeman, nor African nor Chinese, nor European nor American, neither male nor female…” (Gal.3:28)
Nothing distinguishes the individual more than the revelation of his original identity as preserved, restored and revealed again in Christ.
In Christ the image and likeness of the invisible Creator is accurately displayed again in human form. “It is in Him that God gives a full and complete expression of Himself. Moreover, your own completeness is realised only in Him.” (Col.1:15, and Col.2:9,10. Phillips Translation)

“He is not far from each one of us” Paul reminds the philosophers of Athens, “In Him we live and move and have our being; we are indeed His offspring…” (Acts 17:27,28.) The inner mirror of Christ says it all! Our likeness to Christ revealed within us brings real transformation; this realisation is so much more effective than wishful thinking, mere ‘window shopping’ or the exercise of our willpower! (2Cor.3:18)

Not once in Paul’s Epistles does he make mention of any miracles performed by Jesus, neither does he refer to any parable told by Him.

His mission and message was not to proclaim Christ revealed in history, but Christ revealed in us! (Rom.8:10)
He celebrates the harvest revealed in the single grain of wheat that would have remained alone, had it not been sown into the earth and died. (John 12:23,24)

The mystery that was hidden from generations of people was not understood by any of the rulers of this world. God documented this mystery in Christ’s incarnation for man’s glorification. Had they understood this they would never have crucified the Lord of glory. (1Cor.2:6-9) But they did not understand the mystery of God’s plan, how mankind was to be fully represented and included in Christ; how one would die for all, and how simultaneously all indeed died in His death. (2Cor.5:14) They did not know that all of humanity would be represented in the single act of one man and thus disarm the claim of darkness and ignorance over all people. “God has overlooked the times of ignorance.” (Acts 17:30)
History recorded the death and resurrection of one individual, eternity recorded the death of mankind and the new birth of the human species.

We have in our ignorance given far too much credit to the devil. He is defeated and disarmed! In the revelation of the gospel he is brought to nought and rendered completely powerless! (1Cor.2:6-8, Col.2: 14,15) His sole aim has always been to keep mankind as ignorant as he himself was concerning their inclusion in Christ. It was our ignorance and unbelief that empowered him to do so.

The only reference in the Old Testament to the resurrection on the 3rd day includes us! “On the third day He will raise us up!” (Hos.6:1,2) This is the scripture which ignited Paul’s understanding that we are all co-included in His death and triumphant resurrection. On whose terms were we qualified for inclusion?
“All this is from God,” says Paul in 2Cor.5:18; “Of God are we in Christ” (1Cor.1:30) “The ends of the earth in their future generations will know that the Lord has wrought it!” (Ps.22:31) This was accomplished on our behalf while we were still dead in our sins; while we were hostile and indifferent towards God. (Eph.2:5,6) Because we were raised together with Christ; let us now engage and occupy our thoughts with Throne Room realities and not with the futile contradictions and distractions of a lesser life. (Col.3:1-3)
After 3 years spent in isolation in Arabia Paul visits Jerusalem for two weeks and deliberately sees only two of the Apostles, Cephas and James, the Lord’s brother. What was it that distinguished Peter and James, the younger brother of Jesus, from the rest of the disciples? Why was Paul attracted specifically to them? Both these men shared a rare revelation with Paul: they no longer knew Jesus from a human point of view; they had discovered their own true identity in Christ.

Paul refers to Peter as Cephas in order to to emphasise the meaning rather than the familiar sound of his name! In Greek, the written language of his day, the word for rock was “Petros”, but in the spoken language, the Aramaic the word was “Cephas”.
In Mathew 16 Jesus asks the most important question in the Bible, “Who does man say the son of man is?” By revelation Simon asserts in response that Jesus is not the son of Joseph, but the Messiah. He is the promise of man’s redemption, the image and likeness of God restored to and fully displayed in human form; the son of the living God.
Notice how Jesus responds to him, “Blessed are you Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father. If I am the son of God then so are you! Your surname is no longer derived from your natural father in the flesh but from the Rock that begot you! (Deut.32:18, “Look to the Rock from which you were hewn.” Isaiah 51:1) Upon this Rock I will build My church. Greek, ecclesia.
The church is God’s answer to man’s lost identity. The word ‘ecclesia’ which Jesus introduces here does not refer to a building or an organisation, but to the original divine identity of mankind restored and revealed anew in Christ as in a mirror. The Greek preposition, ek, always refers to origin or source, (1Cor.1:30, Heb.2:11) and klesia, from kaleo means to surname or identify by name. The essential meaning and purpose of the church then is to extend the ministry of Jesus Christ which is to unveil the true Christlike identity of every man. “We were born anew into a living hope when Jesus was raised from the dead.” (1Pet.1:3)

Why, in addition to Peter, did Paul also visit James? (Gal.1:19) What had happened to James since the time when he had been standing distanced and indifferent to his brother Jesus’ ministry? (“Even His brothers did not believe in Him” John 7:5) What had brought him to write that our birth is of the Father of lights who brought us forth by the word of truth? Our true beginning is in God; we are God’s invention. And “if any man hears this word he sees the face of his birth as in a mirror.” He also states that it is possible to forget what manner of man you are, if you are being distracted from a faith-informed focus in the mirror of likeness, and revert again to to the double-minded opinion of the flesh. (Jam.1:17,18,24)
In 1Cor.15:7 Paul specifically mentions that Jesus had also appeared to James after the resurrection. I believe that the meaning of the ministry of Jesus dawned on him there. He now knew that his brother was indeed the Messiah. He suddenly understood that just like Jesus, his own genesis began in God; as indeed every man’s true birth, now represented and revealed in the resurrection. Joseph and Mary could not parent their original spirit origin.

Paul is convinced that something happened to mankind in the death and resurrection of Christ. The resurrection mirrors everyone’s new birth. This happened even before we knew about it. “He made us alive together with Him while we were still dead in our sins and raised us up together with Him.” (Eph.2:5) When Paul preaches the resurrection in Acts 13, he uses Psalm 2 as his text, “Today I have begotten you!” (Acts 13:30-33)
“For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.” (1Cor.15:22) Jesus was not the second but the last Adam. The old things, (the old Adamic race) have passed away. ”The first Adam became a living soul, the last Adam was a life giving Spirit.” (1Cor.15:45)
“I am persuaded that because one died for all, therefore all have indeed died. From now on therefore I no longer regard any man from a human point of view; in Christ man has become a new creation, the old things have passed away, behold, everything has become new.” (2Cr.5:14,16,17)
When did all of mankind die? In Paul’s logic this happened when Jesus died. Jesus in His person represented all of God in human form and at the same time the whole of mankind.

Jesus did not come to start the Christian religion; He came to reveal every man’s true origin, identity and innocence. When the gospel was first preached to he Greeks, Barnabas was sent by the church in Jerusalem to investigate the reports. He saw the grace of God evident in them and instead of reporting back to the leadership of Jerusalem he immediately fetched Paul and gave him his first public pulpit. He knew and understood Paul’s revelation of Christ in man. It is no surprise to learn then that it was here in Antioch where for the first time believers were called Christians. (Acts 11)
“Ask of me the nations and I will give you the ends of the earth as your inheritance!” (Psalm 2:7,8) The conclusion of the cross is that the ends of the earth shall remember (their forgotten identity, Deut.32:18) and turn to the Lord. (Ps.22:27)

“I proclaim Jesus Christ according to the revelation of the mystery which was concealed in silence in the sequence of timeless ages, but now is made publicly known, mirrored in prophetic scripture.” (“Surely He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement that brought us peace was upon Him and by His stripes we were healed.” Isa.53:4,5) And now the God of the ages has issued His mandate to make the mystery known in such a way that all the nations of the earth will discover the lifestyle (obedience) that the hearing of faith ignites.” (Rom.16:25,26) “The conclusion is clear: it took just one offence to condemn mankind; one act of righteousness declares the same mankind innocent! The disobedience of the one man exhibits humanity as sinners, the obedience of another man exhibits humanity as righteous! (Rom.5:18,19)

The principle of faith then is to see what God sees. God calls things which seem not to be as though they were. (Rom.4:17) “While we look not at the things that the senses observe but we look at the revelation of the unseen as it is unveiled in the mirror reflection of Christ in every man. (2Cor3:18, 2Cor.4:18)

Heb 2:8 “Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to man.
Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
Heb 2:10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.
Heb 2:11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers.” (English Standard Version)

The Mystery
Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2005

The mystery, hidden for ages and generations…but now revealed to His saints…which is Christ in you the hope of glory!Col 26,27 He disappeared from our midst, that we could return to our hearts and find Him there. (Luke 24:31)To look for God outside of man is to look in vain! His image and likeness is preserved in His workmanship – us “Ascribe greatness to our God the Rock! His work is perfect! But you have forgotten the Rock that begot you, the God who gave you birth. Deut. 32:3,4,18 Like Paul, we need to allow the revelation of the Son of God in us to separate us from the restrictive definition of our natural birth. This was his mission; to proclaim Christ in every man.

How great is our God the Rock
His work is perfect
He is the alpha and finisher of
our faith – it’s of God that we are in Christ

Christ in you is the hope of glory
Christ in you – the mystery
You’re in Him and Him in you
It’s the mystery revealed

Look deeper into His law of liberty
As in a mirror, you will see
His image reflected in you
You are born from above
in the light of His love

Guard your heart above all else
It holds the secret of your life
You’re not the product of your own works
You’re the radiance of the Father’s love

Original Design
Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©1990

God preserved the blueprint of our original design in Christ and through the gospel reveals it as our life. The lost coin – though lost – never lost its value. What sin’s oppression could not change, was the image and likeness of God, in which we’ve been made.
This is the wisdom (pure, unmixed and undiluted) that God wants us to partake of.
It is from Him that we take our origin, through Christ Jesus whom God gave us, to be our wisdom, our justification, our sanctification and our atonement. 1 Corinth 1:30 Knox trans.

There’s a wisdom of a Godly kind
So pure and undefiled
It’s the knowledge preserved in the heart
Of one who new us and made us
From the very start

What sin’s oppression, could never change
Was the Father’s likeness in which we’d been made
Christ became for us wisdom from God
The unmixed knowledge of our
Original design

Now, hear wisdom, as she calls you
Beckons you from the highest hill
You’re invited to taste and see
For His love and His mercy are free

There’s a table that’s been prepared for you
A feast of fat things for you to enjoy
Feel the welcome of One who adores You
Feel at home in Your
Original design

Awakening

Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2005

We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it (focus on it), as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the morning star arises in your hearts.2 Peter 1:19
But, it is the way you look, that makes the difference. James says, we behold Him as in a mirror…gazing intently into the perfect law of liberty, until the revelation of your inclusion in Him, dawns in your heart. We are not window shopping, looking at something outside of ourselves, but rather “beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, we are transformed into the same image.
2 Corinth 3:18

The light of Your life has dawned in my heart
Revealing the knowledge of the glory of God
As in a mirror, I behold You face to face
I’m changed into Your likeness
In ever-increasing faith

From glory to glory
Like the wake of dawn
Into your image
I am being transformed

Seated in Christ
Seated in the Son
Raised to new life
For all the work is done

I’m resting in Your goodness
Satisfied in love
I and my Father are one ( I am my Father’s delight )

For the rest of my days, I’ll appreciate
All of Your goodness, I’ll celebrate your grace!

Take this moment Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2005
‘We possess nothing but the moment; polish it like a jewel’ E.Goudge
Like God, cultivate the habit of embracing beauty – discover value.
Examine yourself… once you have discovered that He is there, which He truly is, then look beyond yourself and discover His image and likeness in every man…and then, with all your heart – awaken it by being who you are!

I take this moment,
To look within my heart, I find You there
Your love has captured me
Your favour it surrounds me,as a shield
How rare, how beautiful, are all Your thoughts toward me
How plentiful

I behold Your face in righteousness, I see
I’m satisfied when I awake in Your likeness

How beautiful You are,
My Father I adore You more than anything
I’ve ever loved before
You have made Your home in me, and now with every breath,
I’ll live and move and have my being in You

I take this moment, to look out at the world
There are people all around
How costly was Your love, poured out upon the world,
Though they did not understand
Your love in me compels, for I have judged that One has died for all,
Now we live in Him

Awake oh sleeper, arise from the dead
And Christ will shine His light deep within you

In your light (Ps 139:12 Prov 4:18,19)
Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©1988
This was the first song I wrote; I was 18 and this understanding captured my heart, that every person was included in His death and resurrection(2 Corinth 5:14) and that a Day dawned in Christ , which knows no night. The rulers of the age failed to realise that the death of Jesus was not the death of an individual, but the death of mankind! 1 Corinth 2:7,8
He included everyone in His death, so that everyone could be included in His life! This is the substance of our message – this is the understanding we awaken in every man – that all may see.
In His light, do we see the light.

You’ve caused me to see in Your light, oh God
That One has died for all
And if One has died for all my God
Surely all have died, surely all have died

And even the darkness is as light to You
The night shines as the day
Darkness and light are both alike to You
You’ve dawned Your eternal day,
You have dawned Your eternal day

And the path of the righteous, like the rising sun
Shining bright unto the perfect day
Who needs the moon by night, the sun by day
You are our eternal light, oh God
You are our eternal light

And not of ourselves are we adequate
To communicate Your love
But of God are we in Christ
Epistles of Your grace
We are epistles of Your grace

Beyond Seasons Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2003
Before you did anything to impress or disappoint Him, He decided, that you are the focus of His love. Man exists to be in union with His Maker, for Divine companionship and encounter. He calls us to come away from a life bound by seasons, to an uninterrupted friendship with Him. In Christ, God dealt with every possible excuse man could have to feel separated and distanced from God.

Come away my beloved, for you know the winter’s past
The rain is gone, the flowers bloom
I will take you beyond seasons

Arise my love and come away
In my shelter, hide away
For I long to hear your voice and see your face

Come away, won’t you run away with me
Hide away with me My love
For your Lover is your Lord

Oh my Lord I hear Your call
Once again my heart is overwhelmed
How I love to see Your face
Within Your shelter I will hear Your voice

For Your love is sweet as wine
I’m captivated by Your smile
My Beloved, I am Yours, You are mine

I’ll come away, I’ll run away with You
Hide away with You my Love (x2)
For Your love is my desire

Be still Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2000
This is more than just being quiet, but a ceasing from all effort to try and gain His favour or approval, a knowing that He has made up His mind about us, before we could ever do anything to influence it. It is futile to seek to obtain something you already have! Rest, be still…and know.

Be still and know that I am God, be still and truly know that I am God

Quiet your mind and your thoughts in Me
Let me reveal the depth of My word to you
Let me show you how it will meet your need
Rest completely in what I’ve promised and

Be still and know that I am God, be still and truly know that I am God

Perceive with certainty and understanding
Remove all doubt and fear and trust in Me
Let me touch you with my intimacy
Know completely, rest securely and

Be still and know that I am God, be still and truly know that I am God

Think on these things (Phil 4:8) Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2005
Our thoughts are silent words that only God and we hear, but those words effect our inner man, our health and our joy and our total attitude. Noble, true, lovely, pure…we are not busy with wishful thinking, but with the realities of being raised and seated with Him in heavenly places. No grander thought can occupy my mind than the thought that I am the fruit and object of God’s thought.

Whatever is true
Whatever is noble
Whatever is just
Whatever is pure
Whatever is lovely
And of good report
Anything virtuous
Worthy of praise
Think on these things
Think on these things

Be anxious for nothing
But in everything
Give thanks always
For it is amazing
What happens
When Christ is the centre of your life
He is all things
He is all things

The things you’ve seen and heard, these do
And the God of peace, He’ll be with you
The things you’ve seen and heard, these do
And the God of peace will be with you …always

He’s the Prince of Peace who’ll guard your heart
He’s the Light of Life who’ll light your path
He’s my Father and I know His care
Every inch of my life, He holds within His hand.

Why do you worry Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2005
We cannot add to what God has achieved…what we can do is enjoy and appreciate a work well done in us! Phil 4:6; 1 Cor 4:7,8

Why do you worry about your life
What you will eat, what you will wear
Look at the birds, they are careless in His care
See the flowers, they don’t toil or spin.
How much more are you worth.

What do you have, that you have not been given
What can you add to your life
You’re already rich, you’re already full
You reign in this life through Jesus Christ
You’re complete in Him.

You are our reward (Prov 11:24) Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©1990
On outreach in Swaziland, we became aware of what motivates God – abundance!
When the life within a fruit tree becomes more than what it needs to sustain itself, it produces fruit. It is this abundance of life in God that spilled over to produce man – and what compelled Him to redeem man. This same revelation inspires us to give our all, as we awaken every man, that one Father gave birth to us.

There is one who scatters abroad
It only increases
There is one who holds back what is due
It leads to poverty

Your provision inspires our lives Lord
As we give our all
We’re impelled by Your abundant mercies
You are our reward

Now to live is Christ and to die is gain
We scatter our lives Lord
For the Lord is our silver and gold
We’re content with what we have

By this truth, we awaken every man
That One Father gave birth to us
He desired a Godly offspring
Sons of His likeness

For this reason, our Saviour died
His body broken so that we might have new life

To know Him Lyrics by Andre Rabe, music by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2005
It’s simple! Don’t let anyone rob you from the simplicity that is in Christ. Everything there is to know about Him, He has revealed in His Son for us. Anything that stood between us and Him, He has taken out of the way in the Son… so discover Him right now, right here – you don’t have to look any further you don’t have to wait any longer!

To know Him is simple
No rituals to hinder
To know Him is simple
No levels through which to enter

To love Him is easy
No reason to draw back
To love Him is easy
No consciousness of lack

To reach for Him and find Him
is closer than you think
To reach for Him and find Him
It’s within you, this link

To see Him, close your eyes
Awaken to His inner light
To see Him, look within
His vision will ignite.

It’s easy, it’s simple:
Within you, right now,
Reach for Him, find Him,
Love Him, know Him now.

My liberty Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2002
I cannot but sing to the one I love, as my faith responds to what He has done. This is freedom – my liberty – to be a captive of His love.

I was blind, but now I see
By the grace of God
For His light has shone in me
I was lost, but now I’m found
In the love of God
For His mercy follows me

And now I sing to the One I love
My heart is filled with His delight
I rejoice in the One who’s set me free
His love, is my liberty

He’s the joy in every song
He’s my melody
For His love awakens me
He’s the eye in every storm
He’s my Prince of Peace
He’s the Rock on which I stand

Psalm 103 Written by Mary-Anne Rabe ©2000
Sometimes we need to speak to our souls…remind ourselves of what He has done in us!
Encourage yourself in God. “The communication of your faith will promote the knowledge of all the good that is in you in Christ Jesus.” Philemon :6

Bless the Lord oh my soul
Bless His Holy Name
And forget not all of His benefits
Bless the Lord oh my soul
Bless His Holy Name
And look what He’s done for you

Who heals all Your diseases
Forgives all your sin
Redeems your life from destruction
Bless the Lord oh my soul

Who crowns you with loving kindness
And tender mercies
Who satisfies your mouth with good things
That your youth is renewed like the eagle’s

My family and I have spend the last four weeks in South Africa. It has been one of the most active ‘holidays’, both physically and spiritually, we’ve ever had.

We did not plan or organise any ministry opportunities, but Father … together with some our precious friends … organised a whole lot of opportunities to share this great gospel. The first weekend function took place at a student campus in Stellenbosch, but non of these gatherings were contained to a certain time or place – they seemed to spill over into homes and night after night we found ourselves amongst the beaming faces of people who have discovered great treasure.

This Gospel draws us to one another. The communication of our faith becomes effective by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in us in Christ Jesus. (Phm 1:6) The gospel is so much more than just a discovery of information … its a discovery of one-another; it is recognising every good thing which is in us in Christ Jesus; it is seeing beyond the clay pot and acknowledging the treasure within.

Eph 2:10 speaks of us as His workmanship. The word ‘workmanship’ was translated from the Greek word ‘poiema’ from which we also get the word ‘poem’. You are God’s poem! You are the product of His inspired utterance; His skilful, artistic and passionate expression. Eph 1:18 speaks about the riches and glory of His inheritance in the saints. Rom 8:17 declares that we are joint heirs together with Christ. In other words, His inheritance is our inheritance. What is His inheritance and where can it be found? Eph 1:18 shows that His inheritance does not consist of some temporal benefits, but it is people! Psalms 2:8 Ask of me, and I will give the nations for your inheritance, the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession. Our inheritance is nothing less that the restoration of Gods original inspired thought, manifested in man. The lost coin never lost its value … there lies unimaginable value undiscovered in the next person you will encounter and that value is part of your inheritance – recognise it; awaken it.

Jesus recognised that value, in a prostitute who was caught in the act of adultery. Although everyone around Him, especially the religious, only saw a person worthy of condemnation, He saw God’s original thought about her, He valued her true design. Her deeds could not fool Him. In her encounter with Him she found such favour, such approval that the hold of sin lost its grip. Jesus could confidently tell her to go and sin no more. He did not need to refer her to three months of counselling to discover where the problem started. He knew that the demonstration of God’s favourable opinion about her carried enough weight to set her free. Jesus recognised this value in a madman for whom no-one had any hope. This recognition of God’s original thought – the true design of man – compelled Him to speak to a Samaritan woman of questionable repute at a time when it was unheard of for a Jew to speak to a Samaritan.

God wants to convince us of what He is convinced of; He wants us to see things from His perspective. This is why Paul wrote that he could no longer view any man from a human point of view. Paul understood that the death and resurrection of Jesus meant the death of the old Adamic race (that is why Jesus is called the last Adam, not the second Adam), and the resurrection of Christ meant the justification of man. Romans 4:25: who was delivered up because of our offences, and was raised up because of our being declared righteous. Isaiah 66:8 Who ever heard of such a thing or imagined it could happen? Can a nation be born in a day or come to life in a second?

God is placing the same challenge before us saying: “Ask of me the nations, and I will give you the ends of the earth as your inheritance”

I started by mentioning our holiday in South Africa – I realise that I did not say much about the activities etc. But the greatest activity was discovering old and new friends & family in the light of the words above.

Just one bit of news: Mary-Anne recorded her CD!

We’ll publish some songs soon!

His death, resurrection and ascension did not conclude His ministry, but ignited and multiplied it in us! We are not only included in His death and resurrection, but also in His ascension, ‘He raised us up with Him and made us sit with Him in heavenly places!’ Ep.2:6. The grain of wheat that would feed the nations did not abide alone, but fell into the earth and died and brought forth much fruit! John 12:24. The dawning of this truth in the understanding of the believer will revolutionise the church! The ecclesia of God is His voice and expression in the earth! His building, His workmanship, His tabernacle, His abode, His image, His presence known and read by all men! His original blueprint-word made flesh. Ordinary lives communicating an extra ordinary impact! John G Lake wrote, “The struggle of the centuries has been to free the soul from narrow interpretations. The world is still waiting to see Him as He is, Jesus the magnificent, Jesus the giant, Jesus the compassionate, Jesus the dynamic, the wonder of the ages. Take the shackles off, let Him have a chance to bless mankind through you without limitations!” Be renewed in the spirit of your mind! Ep.4:23. Paul makes this statement in 2Cor.6:12, “You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections!” And in 1 Cor.4:8 he says, “Already you are filled! Already you have become rich! Without us you have become kings (It is not Paul’s teaching that made us who and what we are, it was Christ’s obedience) Would that you did reign!” What an awesome privilege to discover and indulge in a truth that has always been. “It is not a new doctrine, it is the Word that has been from the beginning, yet it is new, for that which is true in Him is true in us!” 1Jn 2:7,8.

NEWS FLASH! “Two uneducated fishermen heals a man who was a cripple for more than 40 years! Such was the immediate impact that 5000 men believed!” Acts 4:13. In the time of the early church no written Bible existed for decades and the majority of the people were illiterate, yet the Word increased and the number of disciples multiplied greatly. Acts 6:7. Paul sees with conviction the future of the Word documented not on tablets of stone written and interpreted by human opinion, neither preserved in millions of copies of Bibles and libraries of literature in every translation and language, not even in Christian broadcast and television, but the image and likeness of God engraved by the Spirit of God on tablets of human hearts; lives reflecting the same distinct quality of spirit character that was displayed in the life of Christ; “known and read by all men!” Wow! What an audience, what an impact! I like that, not confusing the masses, but including them! The true light that enlightens every man has come. 2 Cor.3:2,3,18, John 1:9. “With the open statement of the truth, we appeal to every man’s conscience!” 2Cor.4:2. All of our Christian effort through the media and through organised church regardless of how many people we involve, only carry as much impact as the next person we present mature in the full stature of Christ!

The eternal Word, the Word that was from the beginning is now also the final Word, all the imagination of God’s sacred thought, culminating in one man, Jesus, now multiplied beyond count to reveal every man as fully included in God’s love dream. Heb.1:1,2. The prophet Habakkuk saw that the revelation of righteousness by faith would be so clearly communicated, that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. “Write the vision, make it plain upon tablets, so that he may run who reads it.” Hab.2:2,4,14. Nothing will mobilise the individual more, than realising the truth of their spirit identity, their innocence and union with God. Righteousness by faith is not a new, compromised set of rules, but the mirror reflection of God’s image and likeness redeemed and revealed in man. Gen.1:26. “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, what it was that met our gaze and the touch of our hands. Yes, life dawned! Beloved I am not writing to you a new doctrine, this is the Word that was from the beginning, yet it is new, in that which is true in Him is also exactly true in you! He has given us understanding to know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true!” 1 John 1:1,2, ch.2:7,8, ch.5:20.

THE SON OF MAN IS THE SON OF GOD
God’s eternal Word is wrapped up in our sonship. Jesus is now the full expression in one Person of all the fragments of God’s thought concerning man’s true identity and redemption, as communicated in the law and the prophets. “In many and various ways He spoke in glimpses to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken His heart to us in a son, whom He appointed the heir of all things, through whom also He created the ages. He is the brilliant reflection of the glory (the original opinion) of God; He is the exact engraved signet-character of the essence of God’s Person. He is the force of the universe and sustains everything that is, by His utterance! Everything that exists finds its significance in Him! His mission was to restore mankind to innocence by blotting out their sin. Having accomplished this Himself, He now occupies the throne room of God’s majesty! His very Being represents our innocence! Once and for all He freed us from a sin-consciousness! Heb.1:1-3, Heb.9:6-14, Heb.10:1-3,10,14. In Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge’ Col.2:3,9,10. (His incarnation unlocks the secret code that unveils the mystery of man’s inclusion in Christ. His death proclaims the fact that “we have died and our lives are now hid with Christ in God.” Col.3:3) He is the theme of scripture! God associated us in Christ before the foundation of the world! Ep.1:4. ‘It is from Him that we take our origin’ 1Cor.1:30. Knox

It is such a glorious thing to discover that the true context of scripture is not its historic or even traditional setting, but a reality of far greater relevance, our sonship! Heb. 1:1,2. All of scripture finds its relevance only in its relation to the revelation of Christ as truly representing mankind; He is our true identity! “You search and ponder the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me.” John 5:39. Scripture points to Christ and Christ reveals us! “ And we all, with new understanding, see ourselves in Him as in a mirror; thus we are changed from an inferior mindset to the revealed opinion of our true Origin. 2 Cor.3:18. When we read Scripture in the light of redemption, the Bible becomes a new Book. “The letter kills, but the spirit gives life, My words are spirit and life.” John 6:63. The Bible confused and divided more people than any other book yet its spirit-message remains eternally intact in one man, the Word that became flesh, He reveals every man! “If you continue in My Word (The Word that was from the beginning, the Word that is God, the Word that became flesh and dwells in us) you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free, whom the son makes free is free indeed.” John 8:31,32,36. Mankind’s freedom is in discovering their true sonship! This is the truth as it is in Christ. Ep.4:21. “As He is so are we in this world.” 1John4:17. To know the truth about ourselves as it is revealed in Christ is what frees us to be who we are. He is not an example for us but of us! The only faith that is worth pursuing is the faith of God; what God believes concerning us concerns us, and deserves our undivided attention. God’s faith is on display in the Person, the life, death and resurrection of Christ. God believes in our inclusion in Him! ‘Faith comes by hearing; the kind of hearing that imparts the revelation of Christ.’ Rom 10:17. (See RSV)

To give prominence to any scripture outside of its true context, the revelation of Christ in you, is to wander into distraction and error. “See to it that no one makes prey of you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to worldly principles (popular and accepted rules and regulations) and not according to Christ, for in Him there is all of God in a human body. He alone defines our completeness!!” Col 2:8-10. See also v 16-23, all the types and shadows of the Old covenant are now superseded by the greater reality, the new creation in Christ! “The law is but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities.” Heb.10:1. “We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus. He created in Himself one new man!” Eph.2:10,15, Also 2 Cor.5:14,16,17.
