Wow!
....such rich treasure in your thoughts.

I was also thinking of the lost coin again. When does the coin become valuable? Does it earn its value? Obviously not! The coin receives its value when the image of its guarantor is stamped/imprinted upon it - it is created valuable and its value is guaranteed.

The coin cannot earn nor lose its value! However, when it is found, instead of lost, its value can be used for the enjoyment of its owner.

Hi Dawie & Mary Anne great to hear from you

Thankyou for your lovely comments about being known . To know God is to know we are known by him . One is the other. Yet many who seek after God in knowledge about him have it in reverse and find thier search futile. Being known is a wonder and yet a mystery . To know who we are , is only known , in the knowledge we have always been known . Paul,s writings about being in Christ before creation dont make sense until we come to this intimate knowledge that we are known. This knowing we are known is when the light goes on inside and the cry goes up who can seperate us from the love of Christ. This knowing we are known is at the heart of so many issues we struggle with as believers such as identity and security . I was never secure or at rest in what i knew about God , it could change at any moment . Oh but to know we are known delivers us from that insecurity and orphan spirit that pervades so many of the precious ones , that uncertainty of who am i , and how do i know that i know God . To know that you are known is the answer to all life contradictions . And this is the really great bit ,that because i know i am known by Him , this means i also know who you guys are , is,nt that great.Only in this intimate knowledge can we be affirming of one another .Here is one of the great philosphical questions of the ages once asked by the master, "Who do men say that you are" some say many things not always complimentary , but my identity is not in anything other than being known by Him . Oh the freedom , the joy ,the wonder of knowing we are known .Seek him to know you are known this is heavens way.Blessings upon blessings guys

Hi Roddy & Andre
Thanks for your comments! I appreciate the understanding of grace that excludes the sense of debt and therefore using 'deserve' is probably confusing. What comes to mind is Deut 32 and Eph 2 "Ascribe greatness to our God the Rock, His work is perfect...", "We are His workmanship..." We cannot ascribe greatness to Him and value His work in an inappropriate manner... When a crowd jumps up in applause of a great opera performance, it is not a feeling of "deserve" that motivates them, but the value of what they heard. blessings!

So beautiful, Dawie! I can understand why Paul so often said that he did not get tired of reminding the church about these awesomely beautiful truths about the love and grace of our Father...this is the gospel, the good news! And Roddy, I so echo what you say - oh the glory of the awareness that we are known by Him...
Galatians 4:9 But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God...
2 Corinth 5:8 ... we persuade men; but we are well known to God...
Blessings

Hi Guys,
I know what you mean about deserving and with respect to Dawie I understand what he meant by its use . The whole concept of deserving or un-deserving has no place with-in the economy of grace . Otherwise as you say grace would cease to be grace. I was talking with a brother who goes to a church locally here who was telling me that all he hears taught every week , is what he is not doing that he should be doing , and what he is doing is not enough and he should try harder ,ect. He felt so worn out and i could see how weary he was of all the emphasis being on him and what God and others expected of him . I have met so many of these tired saints that im starting to think i have a ministry to them , just joking off-course , However i have noticed that when you wheel them into the spiritual recovery room of grace they begin to get revived very quickly , by turning his focus away from himself onto the the finished work of Christ he almost began to transfigurate before my eyes. Grace is a wonderful beautiful message to the weary . Sorry if i got of the subject slightly just thought i would share a practical example of the beauty of this message of grace for your encouragement and exhortation . I commend you to the grace of God brothers

Hi Roddy & Dawie
We love Him, because He first loved us.
We know Him, because He first knew us,
....His initiative, our reponce.

I do wonder if 'deserve' is the right word. I understand the heart behind it: He loves us because of who we are ... not just in spite of. But concepts such as deserve, earn, owe, obligation is not part of the free and gracious gifts & relationship we receive from Him. Grace is not grace if those who receive it, deserve it.

Hi Dawie ,
To discover the depth of his love , "I sometimes think thats what eternity must be for" So true .....The purpose of our existance is that according to his delight,he delights in his plans to reveal to us the wealth of his grace and the riches of his kindness towards us in Christ . The motive is his love , and not pity ,as you say ,and its his delight and good pleasure to overwhelm us with his goodness
