The fruits of the Spirit passage from Galations 5 is one I believe is often tragically misinterpreted as a list of behaviour traits to pursue, as opposed to a wonderful picture of the life-giving sweet beauty that manifests in our lives when we are rooted in the Lord and watered by the Spirit. Here's just one example - "A 'Fruits of the Spirit' behaviour rewards chart is a wonderful way to teach young children about the Christian character traits found in the Bible in Galatians 5. Children often learn to recite the list of Fruits of the Spirit at church, but it is not always easy for them to understand these character traits and Christian values. Creating a ‘Fruits of the Spirit Reward Chart’ can teach young children how these traits apply in their own lives as well as encouraging and rewarding good behaviour." For me it isn't nit-picking, it is the difference between spiritual life and spiritual death. Amen.
